• Salkantay Trek 4 days

Salkantay Trek 4 days – This trek is the counterpart of the traditional Inca Trail to Machu Picchu – the distance of this trek is longer, more difficult and rugged, but with fewer people and therefore makes it a more authentic trek. You will travel with a small group, exploring the remote trail and climb high up on the Salkantay, the highest point in the region, and then descend through the cloud forest that is close to the jungle. The hike will take us through barren mountains and lush vegetation, through streams and rivers. We will encounter hot springs along the way. You will feel the difference in temperature during the different altitudes we will pass and may even see some snow, the highest point being 4,650 meters above sea level. The hike will end at Machu Picchu.

    DAY 01: CUSCO – MOLLEPATA – SORAYPAMPA

In the morning we will pick you up from your hotel to go to Mollepata. The trip will take approximately 3 hours, we start the hike for about 3 hours until we reach Cruzpata. We will stop for lunch with the view of the beautiful Andean mountains (Humantay: 4,120 meters above sea level and Salkantay: 6,271 meters above sea level). We will continue our trek to Soraypampa, our first campsite (3,800 meters/11,750 feet), the highest and coldest place of the trip, very close to the second highest snow-capped mountain of Salkantay.

    DAY 02: SORAYPAMPA – HUAYRACMACHAY – CHAULLAY

After breakfast we start trekking around 6:00 in the morning, this is the longest day of the trek. The first 4.5 hours are uphill to reach the highest point of the trek (4,650 m.a.s.l.) located between 2 big mountains, Salkantay, on the right and Tucarhuay on the left. The view of the 2 snow-capped mountains from this pass is impressive. We may see snow. After a rest, we will continue our way (downhill) through the cloud forest to Huayracmachay, where we will have lunch. The hike after lunch will take us through the jungle tree line until we reach our second campsite and rest for the next day’s trek. Chaullay Colcapampa (3,000 m.a.s.l.).

DAY 03: CHAULLAY – COLLPAPAMPA – SAHUAYACO BEACH – HYDROELECTRIC POWER PLANT – AGUAS CALIENTES

After breakfast, at 4.30 a.m., we start trekking through the high jungle, crossing the Lluskamayo river and a variety of small streams, we will arrive to Sahuayaco Beach after about 6 hours. This day we will pass through valleys with wonderful views of waterfalls, tropical fruits and plants. Arriving at the place called La Playa, the mules will return to Mollepata, we will take a local bus to the Hydroelectric, from there we will travel to Aguas Calientes or Machu Picchu town, arriving at approximately 5:00 pm and so you will have time to relax, have a delicious dinner and enjoy the hot springs.

DAY 04: AGUAS CALIENTES – MACHU PICCHU – CUSCO

The morning starts very early, around 4 am, with breakfast at 4:30 am. The plan is to appreciate the sanctuary as it is illuminated by the morning light and have as many hours as possible to explore the site. To get there you can walk around 1h30m or take the bus that leaves at 5:30 am. (about 25 min. trip). Upon arrival we will see how the citadel radiates with sunlight. After a walking tour (about 2 hours) with the guide, you will have time to explore the mysterious city on your own. And if you still have energy left, you can also climb Huayna Picchu (2,720 m.a.s.l.). It takes about 45 minutes to reach the top. Then you will descend to Aguas Calientes (where we can return by bus or on foot) and take the train back to your hotel in Cusco.
